A Closer Look at the All-New Morgan Plus Six

As part of our appearance at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, we unveiled our all-new Morgan Plus Six. During the weeks since, our new model has received a host of superb reviews, with our latest addition to the Morgan family representing the perfect blend of innovation and traditional heritage.

Here, we examine what makes the Morgan Plus Six so special, by evaluating its performance and appearance.

Appearance

Morgan are yet to produce a model that doesn’t perfectly capture the essence of British motoring, but the Plus Six has raised the bar to a whole new level. The Morgan Plus Six brings the latest techniques in engineering and design sharply into focus, while simultaneously offering a clear insight into the future of motor design. Add into the equation the fact that the iconic, traditional Morgan shape has been completely retained, and it’s easy to see why so many have hailed this model as our most impressive so far.

The car’s exterior retains Morgan’s expert, lightweight craftsmanship, with the vehicle weighing in at just 1, 075 kg. Underneath, the interior features the all-new CX-Generation platform. This aluminium-bonded skeleton enhances the driving experience tenfold; by using the lightest, most expertly-crafted pieces, a thrilling and responsive performance is guaranteed.

Performance

Industry-leading powertrain technology sits at the very heart of the Plus Six’s performance, underpinning the timeless Morgan silhouette. Having been working in partnership with BMW, this latest model continues to make the most of the German company’s new technological advancements.

The Morgan Plus Six makes use of the BMW Turbo six-cylinder inline engine, unleashing plenty of previously-untapped potential. This technology helps the Plus Six deliver 335 bhp and 369 lb/ft of torque, and allows it to travel from 0-62mph in 4.2 seconds.

As well as ensuring an even more exhilarating experience, the addition of BMW’s engineering allows for a much cleaner drive. With the importance of efficient fuel consumption constantly increasing in today’s world, it should be counted as a great success story that the Morgan Plus Six is actually one of our most fuel-efficient cars yet. 170 g/km constitutes a low figure when compared with that of other high-performance sports cars of a similar calibre.

Reception

As previously mentioned, the Morgan Plus Six has been extremely well received by the national media:

”The fastest production in Morgan history”

– Autocar

“All-new Morgan Plus Six takes top spot from departed Plus 8”

– Autoblog

“A promise from Morgan that this will be the most dynamically capable model the company has ever made”

– Evo

“Here it is, Morgan’s all-new Plus Six, the first straight-six Morgan, the first turbocharged production Morgan and a wonderful flag-waving highlight from this year’s generally downbeat Geneva motor show.”

– The Telegraph

Clearly, the consensus is largely the same. The Morgan Plus Six represents an obvious success for not just Morgan, but for British motoring as a whole. While some have focused on the model’s exceptional performance and others on the stunning design, they all draw largely the same conclusions: the finished product certainly delivers.

Morgan Motor Company

Morgan continue to succeed where others fail in the wider context of British motoring. The comments made on the Plus Six, while wonderful to hear, are not exactly new; over the past 110 years, we have continued to innovate while retaining character and tradition at the same time. That we have succeeded once again comes not as a surprise, but as a welcome reminder that we continue to get it right.
