Morgan Motors have been built at The Pickersleigh Road site since 1914, over 100 years ago. The site is situated in the picturesque foothills of the Malverns, which provides a staggered floor layout that allows each car to glide down the natural slope of the hill, passing seamlessly through each manufacturing process stage.
Using the three core elements of ash, aluminium, and leather, each Morgan car is meticulously handcrafted using a harmony of traditional techniques and innovative technology.
MORGAN DESIGN AND ENGINEERING
Exceptional design and intelligent engineering are at the core of everything that Morgan Motors does. Our in-house Research and Design team make sure that each car retains the allure of a hand-made car, whilst also championing innovative technology.
Our inventive designers work within the guidelines set by global standards in order to meet all of the requirements. As we coach-build all of our cars, we have a strong focus on efficiency in design and manufacture, made possible by our technological expertise. We extensively and rigorously test every new vehicle that we make.
Our engineers and designers work in tandem with our dealers, meaning we receive regular feedback from our customers and can use this to inspire and implement new and exciting design solutions.
The famous chassis of a Morgan Motor is the starting point for all of our production. Our lightweight structure has been carefully designed and honed over the years to provide you with the unique Morgan Motor driving experience that we are so well known for. Each rolling chassis is expertly hand-assembled before undergoing our rigorous quality checks.
Within the woodshop, the iconic Morgan Motor frame is created. The lightweight, ash wood frame acts as the supporting structure from which the whole of the exterior body panels, and the interior leather work, are hung upon. Our techniques have been passed down through the generations, amassing over 100 years of experience. This is why we can guarantee the unique precision of every single joint and curve. Once the ash wood frame has been carefully constructed, we then dip the frame in a preservative that protects it from the elements and keeps it durable and robust for decades.
The benefits of using ash wood are numerous, which is why we have always used this material in our Morgan Motor cars. The flexibility that ash wood offers, along with its light weight and extreme durability, make it an ideal material with which to build our famous cars. Ash wood also provides highly effective vibration dampening, and, above all else, this natural material is also incredibly beneficial for the environment.
As with many elements of the Morgan Motor process, the tin shop fuses traditional techniques with the very latest in modern practices. Our expertly skilled craftsmen work with lightweight aluminium to create the iconic free-flowing panels that can be seen on every Morgan car. It is in the tin shop that the harmony between craft and technology can so clearly be seen, with hand-stamped louvres and rolled edges meeting laser-cut panels. Next, the body is metal-finished before being taken to the paint-preparation shop, at which point specialists will further refine the hand-beaten panels.
Our commitment to ultra-modern techniques can be seen clearly within our paint shop. We use the most up to date automotive painting methods, ensuring that the finish matches the heights of the car design and make. Our customers choose from 40,000 differing options within our paint shop, the walls of which are decorated with a multitude of vibrantly painted body panels and wings.
Each of our cars is meticulously hand-sprayed by experts, a process which is undertaken in an airtight booth. By using this technique, we can ensure that the exquisite paintwork is blemish free throughout every single panel.
At London Morgan, we use only the finest aniline leather for our cars, as aniline leather gives the exemplary quality and texture that the Morgan line deserves. In our trim shop, our craftsmen spend over 30 hours carefully trimming a minimum of four hides of leather for each and every one of our motors. With the addition of our broad range of colours, an array of finishing touches for you to choose from, and our commitment to hand-crafted and innovative design, you can be confident that every moment in your Morgan will be befitting of the iconic name.
PDI (PRE DELIVERY INSPECTION)
The very last stage of a Morgan Motors’ journey is the PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection). It is here that the brand new, hand-crafted car is scrutinised under natural-light strips by a team of experts who check every single aspect and panel. Our Morgan cars then undergo a flawless polishing process to create a gleaming finish, as well as a full inner clean and polish of our finishings so that once the brand new Morgan Motor is delivered directly to you, it is in its deserved, impeccable condition.
